Celebrating Women’s History Month 2024

Marisa, Tasha, Ruby, and Aileen!

This is the second time I (Aileen) get to reflect on the lovely ladies that make up The Neighboring Movement.

If you haven’t read my post from a couple of years ago, read it here!

I am lucky enough to be entering my 3rd year at TNM. Throughout my tenure here, I have had the pleasure to get to know and appreciate Cara, Maddie, Elizabeth, and Catherine. They met me during a season of life when I needed guidance and mentorship, and I am forever grateful for their support and the contributions they have made to TNM. It’s an honor to call them friends and to be able to carry on a bit of their legacy. Their combined efforts are the foundation of our programs!

This year, we had the fantastic opportunity to meet and hire 3 of the friendly faces pictured above. They have done an absolutely stellar job of stepping into some big shoes. I am so impressed with how easily they have blended into our core team and how they bring their individual gifts we get to brag about!

Women’s History Month is my opportunity to spotlight them, and I am taking full advantage. So, here’s a fun fact about all of us ladies just for funsies!

Did you know that Tasha was previously a middle school teacher?! She taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade at Urban Preparatory Academy. She’s genuinely the smartest person I know, and we are so lucky to have her spearhead the Wichita Activator Network.

Marisa likes to make cross-stitch patterns. She crafts hilarious life advice like “don’t do coke in the bathroom”, which we should all take note of. She’s also taken on the monumental task of managing the Community Animator Network.

Ruby has road-tripped from the border of Canada all the way down to Mexico but has never driven East or West. She’s remarkably gifted in hospitality! I can’t tell you the number of times Ruby has swooped in to ensure people coming through TNM have felt cared for.

As for my fun fact, I got married and two months later left to study abroad in Spain for an extended honeymoon! It was like the Amazing Race except instead of prize money, we got a lot of student debt.

There are so many ways to support us and our programs! Sign up for our newsletter (on our homepage!) or by become a recurring donor (on our donate page!).
