International Women’s Day 2022, An Appreciation Post for the Women of The Neighboring Movement

Hello everyone! I (Aileen) wanted to take today to share why I am so deeply appreciative of the women here at The Neighboring Movement.

From the day I interviewed I was blown away by the energy and genuine passion for this work that my co-workers exuded. Before this position, I had only ever job-hopped. Always the new person, always the trainee. And when you are accustomed to being in that role you find yourself never truly feeling attached to your work. Now, about two months into this job I am fortunate enough to be able to learn, and be trusted to do my job, from the women (and men, of course! but this one is for the ladies.) you see here. They are wicked smart, full of ambition and hope for what their respected programs can do for our community. They are quick to adapt and give encouragement, unafraid to fail or try new approaches. Brave, considerate, and kind folk.

They fully live up to the teachings they share. And as Sheryl Sandberg once said, “We need women at all levels, including the top, to change the dynamic, reshape the conversation, to make sure women's voices are heard and heeded, not overlooked and ignored.“

Neighboring Movement has allowed for just that. Every voice is accounted for, there is no competition as it has been expressed that a win for you is a win for us all! They welcome big ideas through simple, everyday action. Teaching others to view their neighbors, their community, through the lens of abundance. They have helped me shift my perspective and I for one am looking forward to what else I can learn.
