52 Weeks of Neighboring - Week 46
Neighboring Tip of the Week - Ask a neighbor to keep you accountable on something you’re trying to achieve.
If you’ve been around The Neighboring Movement for any length of time, then you’ll know we often say how “neighboring moves at the speed of trust”. So much of our work focuses purely around building trust in neighborhoods and between neighbors, as we see this as the foundation of neighboring. Well, this week’s tip is one that directly addresses this very subject!
This week, we would encourage you to ask a neighbor to help hold you accountable for something. Now, this tip might be best for experimentation with a neighbor whom you already have built a lot of trust with, but regardless, this very action helps build trust even further, aside from helping you change a specific behavior. And, this behavior can be anything! Of course, be mindful of your neighbor’s comfort levels, and ask something that makes sense for your context and relationship. Maybe your neighbor sits in their front yard a lot, and you admire that and want to do so more, so you simply ask them to help remind you to do so or regularly ask you about the last time you did so? Maybe you already sit out in your front yard a lot but are tempted to do work when you do so, so you ask your neighbor to help remind you to be present?
However this looks for you, we hope you can continue to foster trust with your neighbor(s)!
Happy Neighboring!
