The Power of Neighboring
Our Summer Community Animator Network cohort is already halfway over and we are continuously amazed by the power of neighboring as evidenced by these women. One of these Animators held a learning conversation recently that was incredibly nervous about, but had the most amazing experience! Here's what she had to share.
I had two of my neighbors over, they are brother and sister and live in separate houses on an old family dairy farm. I was previously worried that my connections were not going to be as grandiose as they should be, mostly because I get so nervous talking to people outside of "Can I get you another drink?" or "Would you like me to re-read your water meter?" But last night was awesome!
I expected them to stop by, answer my questions, and that would be it. What happened was amazing! They came, they answered my questions, we ate, and visited for 3 and half hours. We visited so much that the notes I took beyond the head, hands and heart, far out weighed [what I learned from that activity]. We uncovered the real answers to the questions only after forgetting about them and conversing about life.
If this class were to end right now, it would have been more beneficial than I could have ever hoped for, and yet we are only halfway through it. I can't wait for my next learning conversation!
