Adopt a bed at Funston Garden this Spring!

Join the FUNston!

The growing season is gearing up at the Funston Neighborhood Garden! Last week a group of volunteers gathered to begin preparing rows for planting. Some of these rows have already been adopted for the 2022 growing seasons; however, there are 5 rows left that are available for adoption by folks wanting to experiment with growing food in a sunny community location.

Your responsibilities: plant, weed, harvest. We do the watering for you! Please do not use any chemicals; we grow organically here.

The Garden is located at 1750 S Broadway on the northeast corner of Funston and Broadway. We have been amending the soil with compost and woodchips for several years to get it ready for gardening. So far, we have grown kale, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, and an assortment of flowers at the Garden. GardenWorks, a local non-profit, utilizes the west half of the garden, leaving the east side for neighbors and local businesses to grow on.

If you would like to tour the garden or are interested in adopting a row, please contact Catherine at: catherine@neighboringmovement.org or (316)619-4940

Why garden? Many people find that working with soil and nurturing plants is therapeutic. Soil is a mystical, powerful substance!

“The soil is the great connector of our lives, the source and destination of all.” -Wendell Berry, The Unsettling of America, 1977
