Happy Pride!

It’s Pride Month!

At The Neighboring Movement, we are lucky to have a vast community of friends and partners doing extraordinary things to make the world a safer, more welcoming place for queer people. Each week of Pride Month, we have a special post planned to highlight some of the cool things happening in our community and projects that are friends are championing.

To start off, we wanted to highlight a couple of things people in our network are doing and share an episode about Queer Neighboring from our podcast.

Matthew Neumann, The LGBTQ+ Foundation of Kansas

Matthew has been one of our Community Animators since 2021. When a trans person in his small town died of suicide, Matthew responded by creating a space online for queer people to connect. What started as a Facebook group is now a non-profit that provides support and connection for queer people across the state. Check out this community on Facebook or at their website LGBTQKS.org.

This Sunday at 6 pm, they have their monthly Zoom hangout, and a few of our Neighboring Movement staff will be quest speakers! Come and join us!

They are also currently selling cool swag that supports their work when you buy it!

Andi Vionivich, Youth Outlook

Andi is a facilitator for our faith-based curriculum, The Good Neighbor Experiment. Youth Outlook is a non-profit in Northern Illinois that provides support for LGBTQ+ youth through services like drop-in centers, parent support, and community education. Andi runs the drop-in site in DuPage County, Illinois. To learn more or support their work, check out their site: youth-outlook.org

Queer Neighboring Podcast Episode

Last year during Pride Month, we interviewed three friends about their experience of neighboring as out queer people. The experience of these folks shares the balance of safety and courage that LGBTQ+ people must weigh to engage in community development.
