Happy Mother’s Day 2022

On this Mother’s Day, I (Aileen) wanted to celebrate and appreciate all the mother/child duos we have here at The Neighboring Movement. Enjoy these photos of Mama’s and Pawma’s with our babies!

One thing I am deeply appreciative about my job is the privilege I have to be able to bring my daughter with me when childcare hasn’t been available. She’s days away from turning two, and as any parent of toddler can attest, that is not an easy age.

But my co-workers are loving and understanding people, and they have been nothing but good to that sweet girl.

Being a working mother in the States comes with its challenges. A work/life balance is not as realistic as we try to make it seem, one cannot simply turn off the worry and absolute agony of leaving their child with different caretakers. But the work I do here at The Neighboring Movement is valuable and worthy of putting my trust in others to help raise my kid. Leading by example, being a good neighbor and contributing to creating a healthy community is the best thing I can do with my time, and I am elated to do it!

Maddie is our program director for the Good Neighbor Experiment. As the program evolves I see her shaping and reshaping the curriculum so it remains relevant. She puts her heart into her work, and it shows. This is her puppy, Tilly. Or Miss Ma’am. Or Matilda. Whatever feels good that day.

Cara is a woman of many gifts, and in getting to know her these last few months I’ve been lucky to be able to learn from her on both the neighboring and motherhood front. She maintains relationships with our neighbors in such a genuine way. She combines her knowledge as a social worker with what she does here at Neighboring Movement effortlessly. These are her boys, joyful and astonishing in every way.

Elizabeth directs the Community Animator Network, and has influenced our Animators to do the most good in their communities through simple and doable ways. I don’t think I’ve met someone who always strives to gain more knowledge as much as Elizabeth. We are so thankful to have someone who wants to make the world a better place in the ways that she does. This is her fur-baby, Lily!

Ashley is one of our co-founders, and from what I’ve seen and heard, she’s also the best mom in the world. She is a person who can shed wisdom and love with everything she puts her time into. Prescott is proof of the fruits of her (and Adam’s!) labor.
