What We Did in August - Community Animator Network

This month was full of amazing Animator events, celebrations, and togetherness.

One of the things I (Aileen) look forward to every year is the Latina Day Brunch that one of our CAN alumni, Idalia Loya, puts together.

70 attendees at the Latina Day Brunch this year! Can you spot the new Animators?

Idalia says, “National Latina Day was on August 20th and there is no shortage of amazing Latina women making strides forward here in Wichita! We’re happy to have a space and a community to celebrate our wins, overcome our challenges and empower each other to continue, regardless of the obstacles! At Latina Líder, we’re here for them!

It was such a joyous time, gathering with all of these incredible women who have found themselves in positions of leadership and influence around our city. So many women from different walks of life came together to cheer each other on. We are so proud of Idalia for the work that she puts in to pull this off!

More highlights from our Community Builders!

  • Arionna Tull (Wichita, KS) held a recipe swap at the grand opening of ICT Food Rescue! We can’t wait to see all the shared recipes and try them! She also connected with district community services representatives to help people learn about their city and district.

  • Emily Cruz and Selena Favela (Wichita, KS) with Somos First-Gen held a community event to share the importance of voting with guest speaker Claudia Amaro!

  • Karen Kasten (Wichita, KS) is continuing with her efforts to revitalize Lincoln Park. She hosted an ice cream event for National Night Out and spent the evening celebrating with neighbors.
