Neighboring Tip of the Week - Check in on a neighbor with a new baby, bring a casserole.

Hello there, friends!

This week’s neighboring tip is a classic with a bit of a twist. Delivering a yummy treat to your neighbors is always a fun neighboring experiment, but this week, we would also encourage you to be intentional about the checking-in aspect of this tip. Is there a neighbor on your block who just had a baby? Is one of your neighbors experiencing health problems or the passing of a loved one? This week, we would encourage you to think about any of your neighbors who might especially appreciate a check-in right now and then encourage you to be intentional about checking in with them!

So, step one: prepare a yummy treat. Maybe this is a casserole, cookies, or a pizza delivery. Step two: check in with your neighbor! For this check in, we would encourage you to be as present with your neighbor as possible, making space to listen to them and chat for a while. If they’re in the midst of a major life transition like having a baby, or currently experiencing loss or health problems, they might be in a space where they’re wanting to process these things. We would encourage you to do your best in simply being there for them, listening to and supporting them. We think this is what neighbors do, so we would encourage you to lean into your role as part of their support network on their block!

As one additional note, this neighboring tip will also be featured on this week’s episode of The Neighboring Movement Podcast! The episode releases on Tuesday, and you can use this link to tune in: https://neighboringmovement.org/podcast. We hope you enjoy, and as always…

Happy Neighboring!
