Fall 2024 CAN Cohort Graduates!

The Fall 2024 cohort at our first gathering!

Another twelve weeks have completely flown by, and I’ve found myself at the conclusion of yet another cohort. It feels so difficult to convey in words just how incredibly proud I am of the thought and intention these folks put into the work. The work of relationship building. The work of intentionality. The work of navigating social anxieties and putting themselves outside of their comfort zones. The work of gathering people, bringing them together, and fostering a space for connection. You know, the work.

I know that we typically equate work with a 9-5 type deal, a late-night third shift, or an exhausting day navigating a gig. But this type of work? It’s joyful and purpose-driven. Sure, it’s sometimes awkward, but at the end of the day, it’s rewarding. The ability to recognize the gifts present in our everyday neighbors and realize that we, too, have something to offer others and our communities is a gift. The hidden abundance around each one of us.

One of the reoccurring themes that kept popping up for our group over the past couple of months was the willingness of people to contribute without asking. Offering graciously and often unexpectedly. Whether it was offering to cohost the gathering in their own home, cooking the food for the event, or even helping hand deliver invitations, neighbors are waiting for the opportunity to contribute. It was so fun to hear the unique experiences of each animator during their presentations. This cohort was an incredibly dynamic and supportive group. The camaraderie between the animators created such a joyful atmosphere but also allowed space for vulnerabilities at the final gathering.

Easily, the best aspect of my job is the excellent 10/10 humans that I get to meet, connect with, and guide through the work of making the invisible gifts visible in our neighborhoods. I’m so thankful to the animators who made up this cohort, and I cannot wait to see the impact they continue to have in their neighborhoods and communities. Carmen, Chianne, Cynthia, Durell, Grace, Jessica, Kaylen, Kerrie, Kieryn, LaWanda, and Tyrone, job well done to each one of you, and a hug congratulations for completing the program!
