Weekend Recap - Latin Fest and Open Streets ICT

This weekend was packed full of celebrations around Wichita that honored Hispanic Heritage Month!

Latin Fest had a parade with dancers, horses, marching bands, and more!

As staff, it’s important for us to attend community events and show up for those who are creating safe spaces for our city to convene in. I (Aileen) saw at least 3 of my personal neighbors on this beautiful Saturday event. And with each face that I recognized I loved that I could connect with kind acquaintances or cheer on friends who had vendor booths selling their handmade goodies.

Animators and board members?! Amazing!

Something we participated in last minute was Open Streets ICT! This event is hosted by the city a couple times a year, in different locations too! We went to the downtown Open Streets where they blocked off 4 miles on Douglas St. From Seneca all the way to Hillside! It was amazing to get to meet so many NEW faces! We had so many friendly people stop by our table. They signed up for our newsletter (if you’re reading this, welcome folks!) and made friendship bracelets, loaded up on candy too!

Check out some of the photos!

Good energy. Great vibes. We can’t wait to see what else this month has in store for us! Happy Neighboring!
